Great Britain 1885 Handwritten letter from PRINCESS BEATRICE on monogrammed note-paper sent from Osborne House with matching envelope. Letter to Lady Southampton discusses the Queen's attitude to her engagement to Prince Henry, announced the previous week. Cover with fine strike of the scarce Portsmouth Sorting Carriage (used on mail from Osborne) and London red 'F' query mark, possibly due to the Princess's confusing spelling of 'Barnbury'. (Lady Ismay Southampton was Lady-in-Waiting to Queen Victoria from 1878 until her death in 1901 and close friend to the Princess)
